Today on Mike: Fearless

As most of everybody who's anybody knows, last weekend was Toronto Pride '06. I would have made note of this sooner but I've been sick since Saturday night. The week started off fine. I could feel my throat getting sore as early as Tuesday so I started popping anti-sick pills until the feeling went away. So when I was downtown on Friday and in little to no pain I was ecstatic. It looked like I was going to make it through the weekend without having to curl up into a ball around Gill's legs and cry myself to sleep. Instead I got to party!

I did party. In fact, we partied a lot. One might even say we partied too much. Ok I take that back. Almost everyone would say we partied too much. To start the weekend off in style we predrank in our hotel room, because predrinking is what all the cool kids do? Right. Please tell me you all got the memo saying nothing is cooler than drinking to a really crappy radio that can only play 99.9 and 104.5? You're just not cool then.

After that we went over to Spring Rolls on Yonge. I had Pad Thai and Asahi because I love Pad Thai and I love Asahi. I'd never been to Spring Rolls before so I wasn't sure what to expect. The Pad Thai itself was a little citrusier and a little less peanuty than I thought I would like but I've found myself craving it over the last few days since I've been home. Eric wore my shirt because I have sweet clothes.

When we were done we went to see where the festivities were. Adam was hoping to get into Crews & Tango only I hate Crews & Tango. So I whined until we went to Fly. It was a good choice on my part, for me. I went in there with no money in my pockets, and walked out drunk off my ass. This is more of an assumption than anything else because while I remember the beginning of Grapefruit at Fly, and have no idea what the end was like - at all. I remember getting lots of drinks, and being groped a lot by different people throughout the night. That's it though.

Fearless on Friday, then the rest of the weekend too!

Saturday I woke up with an unfortunate hangover due to my stupid internal body clock which was still set for work. I made my way to the Eaton Centre to get Gatorade and leave Adam and Eric alone, because they're sluts like that. I wandered around for over an hour before heading back over and taking a nap. My throat had started hurting again so I took my very last ColdFX pill and hoped for the best.

Jer and Co. had come down from Welland for the weekend and we had to go see them. Jer is obsessed with this strange little thing called tradition which meant we had to have a drink at Woody's before wandering around the streets looking at stuff. I got attacked walking by one of the stands for a water polo team. It went something like this:

Girl: Hey, do you swim?
Mike: Umm … I'm a lifeguard?
Guy: Great! Then you can play water polo with us.

They haven't sent me an email yet which actually makes me a little sad. I think I'd love to play water polo. I have a pretty sweet egg beater and the only thing better than a sweet egg beater is using it and making it better. It's also a lot less stressful than life guarding. I got a stiffy too.

Heading over to eat lunch at the Village Rainbow we saw a bunch of video cameras. It was Eric's duty not to be caught on film so we had to dodge in and out of people the whole way down. I stopped at the Motorola stand to get a picture of the Motorola boys, only I pussied out and ran away. Walking by we saw some guy who's apparently from Much Music so Eric wanted to take his picture.

Then they decided to take a picture of his ass. In doing so they got caught on film for all of Canada to see. Mission: Failed. While we were eating Jer pissed me off so I took a really awkward picture of him.

We then spent the rest of our meal drooling over boys very loudly because we have no class. My lack of class was also displayed when I exploded the ketchup all over the place, including speckles on my shirt, instead of just on the fish and chips like I had planned. This would begin a downward spiral at the beginning of a long series of horrible events in which a lot of food is dropped on me.

After lunch/dinner we went back to nap and get changed for the night. By that point I was feeling a little shitty but went anyways. Adam decided I wasn't drunk enough and made me keep doing shots. So by the time we made it to the line for Crews, which I hated, I didn't hate it so much. I also got separated from everyone else, ate a sausage and dropped it on my shirt (yay mustard stains!), and made a whole bunch of sweet new friends and one frenemy in the form of a guy who yells at people when someone touches his ass. For the record I was neither the person who touched said ass, or got yelled at for said touching. BUT what I can tell you is that it was two different people which made it even better to watch.

So after waiting for what was apparently an hour (what's an hour when you're drunk with sweet lesbians?), they decided it was time to go to lüb instead. By that point I was very sick and very cranky, and even the free drink couldn't keep me there. I left early, stumbled into Laurence, and made it back to the room by 1:00am. Then things went horribly wrong.

Two hours of shivering and convulsing had gone by before I figured out how to turn off the air conditioning and Adam and Eric got back. Half an hour later I'm trying to make my way to Shoppers to buy drugs – alone - because my safety is lower ranking than Eric and Adam getting off. Some Advil and a shitty tea from Coffee Time later, and I'm back in the room trying to sleep.

By 5:00am I gave up on the sleeping. I spent some time trying to find out when breakfast was served. Breakfast being served at 7:00am meant I had two unfortunate hours to try and kill my time. When I went to go watch TV in the common room, there was a sketchy guy sleeping on the couch. I wanted to scream "GET OUT OF MY OFFICE" and smash something on his head but I didn't have the energy. So I gave up and tried to find a McDonald's. An hour, 5 McDonald's and all of Yonge, then across Bloor to Avenue and I've got my breakfast. All I had to do was suffer a lot of leg and feet pain and deal with some random guy coming up to me and asking me if I wanted to hook up. I was like "No thanks, I'm taken. Bye." Then proceeded to try and text message Rob to freak out.

Then it was only another half an hour before I could walk back to the room because it was Sunday and the Subway and buses all start late on Sunday. I hated life so much at that point. We walked to church and I tried to pretend I was in a good mood. I asked the Motorola guys if I could take their picture. Bonus points to whoever can tell me why I recognize the one in the blue because I don’t know.

When I was taking the picture I was wearing the Hollister shirt that said "SMILE. It's the second best thing you can do with your lips." Being quirky, the guy in yellow thought he would ask me what the first thing was. Putting sick Mike on the spot is never a good idea. I froze and replied: "Uhh. Uhh. Uhh….. Eat!" Then I ran away as fast as I could.

By the time we made it to the parade I was dying. I'm doomed to never be healthy for one of those things. I stayed as happy as I could until I realized my battery was dying because we had been too busy to charge it. That's when I wanted to die. With nearly the whole parade to go, I had to save my battery for the things that mattered. Jack Layton on a bike and Jeremy.

So here they are. You can find the rest of the pictures in the gallery, because this post is long enough as it is. This year I managed to survive for three days instead of part of one. Next year my goal is to stay healthy the whole time while I do it.
