Last Night

It's my last night in residence and I'm surprisingly upset about it.

It's almot midnight. I'm done. I'm so drained I think I might pass out. And there aren't words to describe how happy that makes me.

Denim Shorts

This is an open letter to the two straight white guys who were attending the ECOMAN sessions for MGT120 this week. You know who you are. You were the two wearing denim shorts. Let’s talk about this for a little bit. Now I realise that being in MGT120, you are most likely Commerce students. I also realise that this means you spend most of your time surrounded by Asians. So it’s almost not your fault. Asians get to wear all this cool shit and make it look awesome. So I can see why you guys thought you could get away with denim shorts. But there’s the problem. You’re not Asian.

Being white, you are not allowed to wear something as hideous as denim shorts. Especially denim carpenter/painter shorts. Especially matching denim carpenter/painter shorts. Most people, being stupid, will look at you and think you’re gay. And we can’t have that. No self respecting homosexual will wear denim shorts. No self respecting person should wear denim shorts, but I can’t go around fixing everyone’s wardrobe problems. I can however freak out when I see something like this. So while I might be obliged to apologize for "accidentally" spilling my latte on both of you, I was really doing you two a favour. You needed to go find a better wardrobe anyway.

Exam Log: Winter 2007

I am in no position to go to my ECOMAN ECO100 Session tonight, but I need to lest I waste my mother’s money. I’ve been studying a lot for the last week now and I feel my brain is about to melt. Last night I couldn’t communicate to anyone. At one point in the study room I got so distracted by the flashing lights on the hospitals that I started twitched and had to leave the room. I would very much like to purchase some chocolate right now.

Oh god.

Last night, for a period of about 15 minutes, I was no longer capable of speaking English properly.

Don’t get me wrong, most of the time I’ll swoon over what Jenn at Reappropriate says. I agree with something like 99% of what she says. Then there’s always that 1% that pushes me over board and makes me smash my head on my keyboard. Today was one of those days. In another summary entry about how America hates Asians, she lists Kill Bill as a movie “glorifying violence against the Asian body” in an attempt to make her point even more irrefutable. Of course, she happens to be ignoring the fact that that’s completely wrong but that never seemed to matter to her before.

If O-Ren Ishii had been from Inida, and Uma Thurman’s character had been killing a bunch of Indians the movie would have been exactly the same. It just happens that Western culture (and apparently Quentin Tarantino) has an obsession with Japan and the legend of the Samurai. If someone manages to come up with a valid argument proving me wrong, I will give them a cookie. Until then, I will be attempting to find ice for my head.

Summer Course Enrolment Start Times Today

| | Comments (0)

So today Adam told me that I should already be able to sign up for the summer courses I need to take. I had a mini freak out because I didn’t want to miss these courses, and run home to try and sign up. As I tried I was told I couldn’t sign up right now. My heart stops as I’m afraid that the courses are full, or that I’m being kicked out of school, or that there’s some giant conspiracy to keep me at home this summer. Then I realise that I might not be able to sign up yet. I check my start time and it tells me that I’m not allowed to sign up for classes until April 5, 2007 at midnight. Excellent. When I checked this it was April 4, 2007 at like 9:45pm. So I stay in on my Wednesday night to try and get my classes.

Wednesday happens to be what I call Gay Friday. It’s the easiest night for most of my friends to go out on. College Night at Vice is an easy night to get absolutely plastered. I’ve also found out that there’s a good place to go out before hand to get cheap drinks. By cheap drinks, I mean free drinks. Free drinks that end just early enough for us to get out to Vice afterwards. At least that’s the plan now. I didn’t put it in motion tonight because I was in my room waiting to go to sign up for my summer courses.

So I sat, and waited. I gave up my Wednesday night to stay in and wait to sign up for my courses. Come 11:45, my internet cuts out. It’s a slightly less than common occurrence in the Nut, but now was not a time I wanted to deal with it. I freaked out and spent 10 minutes fixing my internet. I realise that ROSI doesn’t let me sign in until 12:15, so I have until then to fix my internet. I fix my internet with 1 minute to spare. I sit on ROSI spamming refresh. I log in, I go to add my class.

Same error as before. Confused, I check my start time again. Now it’s April 16, 2007 at 11:00am. Thank you very much, ROSI. You’ve ruined my night.

Let’s Hope They’re Not Important

Today I finally had my appointment with an ENT about my throat. I enjoy going to see specialists simply for the reason that they’re specialists. It means they can get people in and out quickly because they’re only focusing on one thing, or set of things. They also do things to you that wouldn’t normally happen at a GP. For example, today I had a camera shoved up my nose so that the ENT could look at my adenoids. It was an uncomfortable experience, one that I can’t even relate to anything else. Having an inch and a half of camera stuff up your nose seems to be one of those unique sorts of things.

The conclusion was that I’m going to need my tonsils out. I’m not sure if I’m looking forward to it. The 15 minute surgery comes with a recovery period described as "the worst sore throat of your life for about two weeks." I’m so excited. There’s also no hospital stay, which in the end comes out as a plus. I’m sad that I’m going to miss guilt-tripping people into coming to visit me. I will still expect ice cream from everyone though.

The iTunes Store

In something that made me really happy AND sparked a snotty conversation with a friend, I found out today that EMI and Apple are dropping DRM on their songs. What does that mean? It means that I can buy a song, and listen to it on all of my computers without having to authorize or deauthorize one of them. It also means that I might actually start buying music from the iTunes store. And yes, I realise that getting excited about this makes me a huge loser.

In the Next Two Weeks

| | Comments (0)

There are two weeks left of classes in my second first year of university. This year went by about a thousand times faster than the first one I did. It also leaves me in an interesting situation. As of this point in time I am about 3 chapters behind in my French class, 3 or 4 chapters behind in Accounting and a record 23 chapters behind in my Economics. Now in my defence, I wrote an Accounting test last week and seem to have done well (we’ll find out on Thursday) and most of the Economics reading is for macroeconomics which is covered differently by my professor. But still, I have a lot of effing reading to do.

My room is a disaster – a pathetic metaphor for the lack of organization in my life right now. In realising that I have two weeks left of class I also realised I have two weeks to finish a bunch of shit before people start going home. I also have just a little bit longer to figure out what I’m doing over the summer. As of right now it looks like I’m going to spend four months taking classes, commuting from Oakville, and working (somewhere, anywhere).

So if you’re wondering where I’ve disappeared to over the next two weeks, it’s highly possible that I’ve drowned in the large pile of books and clothes that litters my room right now. In which case, please come save me.
